Merry Christmas from Our Family to Yours Staying Healthy Through the Holidays

As we approach the heart of the holiday season, all of us at Vogelgesang Family Chiropractic want to pause and wish you and your loved ones a very Merry Christmas. Whether you visit us in Massillon or our Dalton location, our patients often tell us they feel like "part of the family" when they walk through our doors. That feeling is mutual.
Dr. Chad Vogelgesang knows firsthand how busy this season can be. As a father of two active sons and a dedicated member of the Stark County community, he understands that the holidays are a mix of joy, excitement, and—let’s be honest—a little bit of physical stress.
To ensure you enjoy every moment of the season without the back pain or fatigue that often accompanies the "holiday hustle," we have put together a few wellness tips based on our clinic’s philosophy that "movement is medicine".
1. Give Yourself the Gift of Movement
It is tempting to stay sedentary during the holidays, but our core philosophy is that healthcare should help you truly improve your quality of life through movement.
The Holiday Walk: After a large holiday meal, avoid the urge to nap immediately. Instead, take a brisk walk with the family. We frequently share the benefits of walking for overall health, as it prevents stiffness and maintains function.
Active Recovery: If you are an athlete or runner, stick to your routine but listen to your body. Dr. Vogelgesang emphasizes that proper alignment allows you to perform at your best and recover efficiently.
2. Watch Your "Holiday Posture"
Between scrolling through digital gift lists and long travel days to visit relatives, your neck can take a beating.
Combat "Tech Neck": Dr. Vogelgesang warns that forward head posture from constant device use can lead to headaches and tension. meaningful breaks from your phone, and hold devices at eye level to reduce strain on your cervical spine.
Travel Smart: If you are driving long distances, stop every hour to stretch. If you are flying, ensure you use both straps on your carry-on backpack to distribute weight evenly—a tip Dr. Vogelgesang often gives regarding children's backpacks that applies to adults, too!.
3. Lift with Care
From hauling Christmas trees to carrying heavy boxes of decorations, the holidays are a workout. Dr. Vogelgesang’s own career path was inspired by recovering from a severe back injury during home renovations, so he knows how quickly an injury can happen.
Bend the Knees: When picking up heavy gifts or grocery bags, engage your legs and core, not your back.
Listen to Your Body: If you feel a twinge, stop. Chiropractic care is about helping you move better and feel better without being subjected to pain medications, so prevention is key.
4. Hydrate and Destress
We often share insights on hydration and stress relief because we believe in holistic health beyond just pain relief.
Water First: Amidst the eggnog and hot cocoa, remember to drink plenty of water to keep your muscles hydrated and less prone to cramping.
Breathe: The holidays can be mentally taxing. Take time for yourself to breathe and decompress. A healthy nervous system supports a healthy mind.
A Note of Gratitude
For over a decade, it has been our privilege to serve as a leader in family chiropractic care for Massillon, Canton, and the surrounding areas. We are grateful for the trust you place in us to care for your families, from your children to your grandparents.
From Dr. Chad, his wife and sons, and the entire team at Vogelgesang Family Chiropractic: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We look forward to helping you live a better, more active life in 2026.
